- Despite significant advancements in neural text-to-audio generation, challenges persist in controllability and evaluation. This paper addresses these issues through the Sound Scene Synthesis challenge held as part of the Detection and Classification of Acoustic Scenes and Events 2024. We present […]
- Acoustic context effects, where surrounding changes in pitch, rate or timbre influence the perception of a sound, are well documented in speech perception, but how they interact with language background remains unclear. Using a reverse-correlation approach, we systematically varied the […]
- After teaching transducer measurements to master’s students for several years, we noticed that the voice coil inductance and the associated physical phenomena inside the loudspeaker motor are frequently considered the most challenging concepts for students to grasp. Consequently, we developed […]
- Research on within-individual modulation of vocal cues is surprisingly scarce outside of human speech. Yet, voice modulation serves diverse functions in human and nonhuman nonverbal communication, from dynamically signalling motivation and emotion, to exaggerating physical traits such as body size […]

- In recent years, MEMS (micro-electromechanical system) microphones have become a key component in a wide range of consumer electronic devices. The need to improve upon existing applications, such as voice pickup for phone calls, as well as the development of […]

- Automatic speaker recognition (ASpR) has been integrated into critical applications, ranging from customised assistant services to security systems and forensic investigations. It aims to automatically determine whether two voice samples originate from the same speaker. These systems primarily rely on […]
